Quality & Diesel Technician

The Quality & Diesel Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, diagnosing, and analyzing returned products to determine failure modes and support the resolution of warranty claims. This position combines hands-on diesel mechanical and diagnostic expertise with warranty analysis to identify the root cause of component failures and improve product reliability.

The technician will work closely with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Warranty teams to communicate findings, support corrective actions, identify recurring failure trends, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive, inspect, test, and document returned warranty products and components.
• Perform hands-on diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of diesel fuel-system components, including fuel injectors, fuel pumps, and related components.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, measure, test, and reassemble components as required to determine failure modes.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel-system-related issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment, test equipment, and measuring tools.
• Perform failure analysis and root cause investigations to determine whether failures are related to manufacturing, materials, workmanship, application, contamination, wear, or other conditions.
• Document findings and provide detailed technical reports, including test results, measurements, photographs, and identified failure modes.
• Partner with Engineering and Quality teams to support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
• Assist with troubleshooting difficult or unusual warranty returns and provide technical insight based on diesel repair and diagnostic experience.
• Identify recurring warranty trends and communicate findings that may support product, process, or design improvements.
• Maintain accurate warranty records and ensure appropriate traceability of returned components.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, service information, and diagnostic procedures.
• Operate diagnostic and test equipment as well as precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Follow established warranty procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; diesel technology, automotive technology, or related technical certification/associate degree preferred.
• 2+ years of experience as a diesel technician, diesel mechanic, automotive technician, warranty technician, failure-analysis technician, or similar hands-on technical role.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, or testing diesel engines and/or diesel fuel-system components strongly preferred.
• Experience with diesel fuel injectors, high-pressure fuel pumps, fuel-delivery systems, or common-rail diesel systems highly preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated ability to disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble mechanical components.
• Experience using diagnostic equipment, test equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, diagnostic information, and service documentation.
• Understanding of failure analysis and root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Why, 8D, and Ishikawa/fishbone analysis preferred.
• Previous experience with warranty claims, returned-product analysis, manufacturing Quality, or product testing is preferred but not required for candidates with strong diesel technical experience.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document technical findings.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.
