Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead process department efforts to continuously improve manufacturing processes by documenting process characteristics in terms of quality and performance measurements, identifying and resolving bottleneck areas.
- Provide engineering solutions to process problems identified through the customer feedback and process performance measurement systems.
- The incumbent will support efforts to maintain and establish a higher level of communication and understanding between Production/QA/Engineering departments and its internal customers within the organization.
- Candidate is responsible for advanced applications of present technology to achieve critical business goals and for coordinating expert technical resources on applications in today’s technology.
- The candidate also provides the top “in-house” level of expertise and support on implemented technology.
- This position requires imaginative approaches, using the application of known technology to resolve a broader range of current problems.
- The position requires understanding the interactions between various processes to promote creativity and informed risk taking establish processes for continuous improvement.
- Development of Documented SOP’s and implementation of Best Practices into the facility.
- Complies with all OPEX (Operational Excellence) policies, procedures, and guidelines required of them in their current role; completes all required training, audits, and compliance tools.
- The incumbent helps provide a safe work place by assisting in developing, promoting and following practices which prevent injury and meet legal safety requirements.
- Follow all food safety guidelines while on the manufacturing floor.
- Report any deviation from food safety protocol to the functional responsible personnel.
- Each employee will complete required Quality/GMP/EHS/OPEX trainings and observations located on the EHS website as required on monthly/quarterly basis.
- Support our process management efforts to establish and document Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practices around manufacturing practices, which should include interaction with counterparts in other departments.
- Lead efforts to identify and solve safety concerns encountered during design and study of manufacturing processes.
- Apply tactical planning and provide input for strategic planning.
- Train/Coach in the appropriate use of problem solving and quality tools.
- Resource person to support equipment in all phases of the manufacturing operation to achieve proper and efficient running conditions in support of defined manufacturing milestone performance levels.
- Analyzes production data for appropriate problem solving and provides recommendations for performance improvements. Decision-making exercised in areas authorized.
- Investigate and identify areas for improvement regarding specific process metrics.
- Collaborates with quality and manufacturing engineering organization to enhance equipment standardization and performance.
- Utilizes SPC and process quality deployment techniques to enhance existing processes, i.e. reliability, scrap reduction, speed improvement, quality, process control, and process performance.
- Ability to prepare Standard Operating Procedures and Training Documents as needed, along with training production personnel across all crews.
- Understanding and ability to prepare thoroughly developed DOE’s (Design of Experiment) for determining best fit processing parameters.
- Determination of critical process parameters and development of tiered auditing to support process management initiatives.
- Incumbent will be a support team member in our 24/7 manufacturing environment and will be expected to be a resource in our priority driven help chain.

- B.S. in Plastics Engineering, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, or Associates degree and or five years related experience.
- Knowledge base should include machine and tool design, processor controls, fluid power, kinematics, plastic properties, and heat transfer.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a manufacturing facility preferably plastic processing, is required.
- The incumbent must be able to use statistical process control and other quality tools to improve processes and product quality, cut costs, and increase speeds. Knowledge of various computer programs should include Windows, Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, and SPC software.
- The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal and teaming skills as well as the ability to motivate others with enthusiasm and drive. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to understand complex production processes are necessary.
- Must have a strong knowledge of Injection/Compression Molding process, preferably including closure processing parameters using varieties of both polypropylene and polyethylene base blends.
- Must have a broad knowledge of injection/compression molding machines (hydraulic and electric), auxiliary equipment, and raw materials used in the injection/compression process.
- Must have a high level of understanding, experience, and troubleshooting knowledge of high speed injection molding manufacturing operations.
- Must have strong knowledge of mechanical principles, plus technical knowledge to visualize arrangement and relationship to static or moving parts and assemblies represented in blueprints and diagrams.
- Strong Familiarity with downstream auxiliary equipment such as: high speed vision systems, control systems, sensors, conveyors, robotics, parts handling, slitting/scoring machines, lining machinery, part sorters, and raw material delivery systems.
- General knowledge of the interface of auxiliary equipment with other devices for improved operating efficiencies.
- General knowledge of plant utility systems such as: Pneumatics, Chilled Water Systems, and Tower Water Systems
- Strong knowledge of CAT III Safety Requirements and familiarity with Control Reliability, and RRI (Routine Repetitive, Integral)
- Ability to think “outside the box” and consider both internal (plant resources) and external customers for projects.
- Emphasis on equipment operating features resulting in the most efficient use of facility resources, highest quality product, with zero opportunity for shipping out product that does not conform to specification.
- Familiarity with high speed, rotating machinery such as assembly and lining is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical issues to various levels within the organization.
- Understanding and ability to prepare in depth technical specifications for procurement of capital equipment to include but not limited to high speed assemblies, lining machines, injection molding machines, injection tooling and other peripheral equipment required for the manufacturing of plastic closures.
