At Torngat Metals, we are developing the Strange Lake project to meet the urgent global demand for responsibly sourced rare earths that are essential to the energy transition. Torngat Metals is seeking a qualified Logistics Manager to join its team, based in Montreal. Reporting to the Director, Procurement and Supply Chain, this role is responsible for leading project logistics and materials management for a large, complex capital project in a remote operating environment.
The Logistics Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and coordination of logistics activities across all project phases, including construction, commissioning, and transition to operations. This role requires demonstrated experience leading logistics functions for large projects with remote sites, preferably within an EPCM or owner‑led project environment, and close collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Operations teams.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement the project logistics strategy, aligned with schedule, cost, safety, and operational objectives.
- Lead logistics planning and execution across the full project lifecycle, from early works through construction, commissioning, and transition to operations.
- Manage logistics for remote site access, including marine, aviation, surface transport, and seasonal delivery constraints.
- Coordinate closely with Procurement to align purchasing strategies with transportation plans, delivery sequencing, and site readiness.
- Collaborate with Engineering to ensure logistics requirements are incorporated into equipment specifications, packaging, and handling plans.
- Oversee materials management, including receiving, warehousing, laydown areas, inventory control, and on‑site distribution.
- Develop and implement warehouse and inventory strategies to support construction, commissioning, and early operations.
- Monitor logistics service provider performance, delivery schedules, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify logistics‑related risks and develop mitigation and contingency plans, particularly related to weather, access, capacity, and seasonal constraints.
- Support operations readiness, including:
- Planning and staging of operating spares and consumables
- Establishment of sustainable logistics workflows for steady‑state operations
- Transition of logistics assets, systems, and service contracts from Project execution to Operations
- Provide regular reports on logistics performance, costs, risks, and schedule impacts to project leadership.
- Mentor and support logistics and materials management team members, fostering operational discipline and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is required.
- 10–15+ years of experience leading logistics and materials management on large capital. projects, preferably in mining, heavy industry, or infrastructure (> $500M capex).
- Demonstrated experience managing logistics for remote or challenging project sites with constrained access and seasonal delivery windows.
- Experience working within EPCM, IPD, or owner‑led project delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of transportation modes (marine, aviation, surface), warehousing, inventory systems, and materials flow on large sites.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines in a matrixed project environment.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to risk management.
- Familiarity with logistics, materials management, and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Experience supporting project‑to‑operations transitions is considered a strong asset.
- Experience working in a startup or early‑stage project environment is considered an asset.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
