Full job description

At Torngat Metals, we are developing the Strange Lake project to meet the urgent global demand for responsibly sourced rare earths that are essential to the energy transition. We are currently seeking talented individuals who are eager to contribute to our highly strategic project and play a role in shaping a resilient and responsible rare earth industry in Canada.

Torngat Metals is seeking a qualified Manager Data Centers, Network and Telecoms to join its team located in Montreal. Reporting to the Director IT-OT this role is responsible for the strategy, design, build, and reliable operation of the company’s data centers (edge and core), networks (LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, OT segments), and telecommunications (satellite/VSAT, two-way radio) across project phases: feasibility, construction/commissioning, and operations.

The role will evolve with the project’s advancement into operations.

What You’ll Do:

Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, standards, and reference architectures for data centers, networks, and telecommunications.
  • Establish standards for modular and edge data centers (power, cooling, fire suppression, DCIM), structured cabling, and backhaul redundancy.
  • Translate operational requirements into capacity, resiliency, and coverage designs across compute rooms, edge data centers, network core, and site-wide telecom systems.
  • Define OT/IT segmentation models aligned with best practices and corporate security principles.

Delivery & Implementation

  • Produce and/or review technical specifications and RFPs.
  • Evaluate EPCM and vendor proposals.
  • Lead design reviews, FAT/SAT criteria definition, and acceptance planning.
  • Oversee installation, integration, and commissioning of infrastructure and telecom systems.

Operations & Reliability

  • Ensure secure and resilient connectivity across IT and OT/ICS environments, aligned with corporate policies, enterprise architecture principles, mining safety requirements, and northern remote constraints (climate, backhaul limitations, power stability).
  • Maintain resilient backhaul, QoS for OT traffic, clock/time synchronization, and winterization practices adapted to northern environments.
  • Validate system performance against SLAs and design KPIs.

Security & Collaboration

  • Partner with Digital Security to implement network access control, segmentation, IDS/IPS, secure remote access, and SOC-integrated logging.
  • Interface closely with Operations, HSE, and Technology teams.
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team and external partners to deliver secure, high-availability solutions while controlling costs and enabling scalability.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 15+ years of experience in data center, network, and telecom engineering and operations, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in industrial or remote/harsh environments (mining, oil & gas, utilities, or similar).
  • Strong exposure to OT/ICS networking and plant control environments.
  • Proven expertise in corporate and industrial Ethernet, routing and switching, SD-WAN, QoS, NAC, wireless technologies (Wi-Fi and private LTE/5G), and LEO backhaul.
  • Hands-on knowledge of high-availability data center design (power, cooling, structured cabling, DCIM), and hybrid deployment models (on-premises and cloud).
  • Experience with commissioning and acceptance testing.

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Competitive compensation with a bonus program
  • Group RRSP with up to 5% employer contribution
  • Flexible hours and hybrid work schedule
  • Generous benefits (health, dental and vision)
  • Telemedicine
  • Professional development and career advancement opportunities
  • Join a company that is in full growth and development
  • Participate to the full IT lifecycle (Enterprise Architecture, Project Management and Delivery, etc.)
  • Collaborate to the entire Technology Stack (IT, OT, ET and AI initiatives)
  • Work with senior technology experts and industry leaders
  • Free coffee!
