We are currently seeking talented individuals who are eager to contribute to our highly strategic project and play a role in shaping a resilient and responsible rare earth industry in Canada.
Torngat Metals is seeking a qualified professional to join its team located in Montreal. Reporting to the Vice President, Business Excellence, this role will guide strategic initiatives related to integrated operations and ensure alignment with broader business excellence, technology, and operational readiness activities across the organization. This position ensures the company makes the right technology, process, and organization decisions at the right time, minimizing risk and enabling a smooth transition into steady-state commercial operations in an integrated environment.
The ideal candidate will bring strong industry experience, consulting-grade analytical capabilities, digital systems exposure, organizational change skills, and the ability to align diverse technical and operational stakeholders across multiple projects and sites. The role will evolve with the project’s advancement into operations.
What You’ll Do:
Integrated Operations Strategy:
- Support the VP in developing and maintaining the long-term integrated operations roadmap covering people, processes, systems, equipment, and data.
- Conduct integrated operations readiness assessments and identify risks, dependencies, and mitigation actions as the business progresses toward commissioning and ramp-up.
- Translate readiness priorities into work plans, deliverables, milestones, and reporting dashboards for leadership.
Digital & Technology Alignment:
- Support the evaluation and selection of operational and technical systems (Dispatch, FMS, maintenance systems, reporting, analytics, mobile equipment technology, remote operations enablement, data infrastructure, etc.).
- Drive vendor evaluations, RFIs, business cases, implementation sequencing, and benefits tracking.
- Partner with key business owners (Operations, Maintenance, Geology, Safety, Finance, Supply Chain, HR) to understand requirements and ensure systems and data support business performance.
Process Design & Continuous Improvement:
- Map, optimize, and document business processes required for startup and eventual operations.
- Identify performance gaps and create structured improvement plans (Lean, Value Stream Management, root cause analysis, etc.).
- Drive initiatives that improve HSE, productivity, situational awareness, decision-making, and cost effectiveness.
Change Leadership & Organizational Adoption:
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops, alignment sessions, and capability-building with site and corporate teams.
- Support the rollout of new tools and processes with user adoption strategies, training, communications, and change impact assessments.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business area leaders, helping them manage organizational and workflow transitions associated with new systems and structures.
Performance Management & Reporting:
- Develop KPIs and reporting tools enabling visibility into Integrated Operations and project execution performance.
- Create executive-level reports, dashboards, and presentations to support decision-making.
- Track benefits realization and value delivery against investment and schedule.
Site & Vendor Engagement:
- Conduct site visits to understand operational realities—managing discovery, workshops, trials, pilots, and implementation support.
- Build trusted relationships across contractors, vendors, engineering partners, and site management.
- Approximately 30% travel required.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or another engineering discipline.
- A Master’s degree in engineering, management, or technology, or experience in mining/geological engineering is an asset.
- 10+ years in mining, mineral processing, or resource-sector operations, consulting, or digital transformation.
- Experience working on integrated operations environments in the resource sector (mining, oil and gas, energy, etc.).
- Demonstrated success guiding multi-stakeholder alignment and implementation at operating sites.
- Experience evaluating and deploying operational or digital systems (e.g. Fleet Management Systems, reporting platforms, condition monitoring, remote operations, or similar).
- Strong process mapping and design; Lean value stream mapping and continuous improvement experience an asset.
- Analytical skills (KPIs, business case development, ROI, risk modeling, dashboard creation).
- Strong vendor engagement, contracting, or selection experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication for both executive and site audiences.
- Experience with data and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or similar) is an asset.
- Resourceful, proactive, and comfortable working in a growing, fast-paced startup environment.
- Able to build trust across technical, executive, and operational teams.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of structuring complex, ill-defined problems.
Why You’ll Love It:
- Competitive compensation with a bonus program
- Group RRSP with up to 5% employer contribution
- Flexible hours and hybrid work schedule
- Generous benefits (health, dental and vision)
- Telemedicine
- Professional development and career advancement opportunities
- Free coffee!
