Position Overview
- SubCom’s Network Element Design group is responsible for new product development, sustaining engineering, and value analysis/value engineering for wet plant repeaters, branching units, and other undersea network elements. The Network Element Mechanical Design Group is responsible for physical/mechanical design characteristics including: structural integrity, design for shock & vibrations, thermal management, design for manufacturing & assembly, and optical fiber splicing/handling considerations.
- The Mechanical Engineering Intern will report to the manager of the Network Element Mechanical Design group
- The Mechanical Engineering Intern, Network Element Design is expected to progress sustaining engineering and value analysis/engineering efforts within the group with documentation of the results. It is also desired that the candidate displays growth and understanding of the core disciplines associated with mechanical design.
Responsibilities
- Essential Functions:
- Creative thinking in the areas of cost optimization and design for manufacturing/assembly
- Assisting mechanical design engineers with new product development and sustaining engineering tasks
- Creation of analytical models for mechanical engineering problems related to dynamics, heat transfer, etc.
- Leverage CAD tools and Bills of Material (BOMs) to document and analyze new and existing product assemblies
- Nonessential Functions: Desirable, but not necessary, aspects of the job.
- Exploring automation of tasks and/or leveraging AI resources for more efficient completion of job responsibilities
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Specific minimum competencies required for job performance.
- Competency with Creo/Parametric or similar CAD software
- Understanding of practical application of solid mechanics, dynamics, and heat transfer
- Ability to consider design for manufacturing and assembly in mechanical design
- Minimum Qualifications: Minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job.
- 3 years of completion toward Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
- Success Factors: Personal competencies that contribute to an individual’s ability to excel on the job.
- Displaying genuine interest in the submarine cable industry
- Exceptional communication skills
- Self-starter and motivated to learn
