The Prototype and Build Supervisor is responsible for supervising employees specializing in prototyping and manufacturing operations in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. The role requires strong math skills, computer proficiency, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization. The supervisor will oversee prototype builds, manage production schedules, support the build team, and coordinate fulfillment of missing or damaged parts for clients. On-the-job training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and assign work to shop personnel
- Manage production schedules and ensure deadlines are met
- Oversee multiple prototype and build projects simultaneously
- Review drawings, parts, and materials; report discrepancies
- Support hands‑on prototype and build tasks as needed
- Manage fulfillment of missing or damaged parts and coordinate replacements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Communicate and coordinate project needs with engineering, estimating, model shop, and project management teams
- Adhere to all Safety Policies and Procedures
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a fabrication shop environment
- Knowledge of acrylic fabrication and woodworking
- 2+ years of experience supervising a team of two or more employees
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering CAD drawings
- Skilled in the safe use of saws, routers, sanders, and other basic shop tools
- Strong math skills, particularly with measurements and percentages
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments
- Highly detail‑oriented, hardworking, and quality‑focused, with strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving abilities
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move between shop areas for extended periods
- Lift and handle materials up to 40–50 lbs.
- Occasional bending, reaching, and light hands‑on fabrication
- Safe use of shop tools and required PPE
- Ability to work in a noisy, dusty, and varying‑temperature environment
