Position Summary:
The Lead Design Engineer for our Beauty vertical transforms visualized concepts into manufacturing-ready solutions and provides advanced engineering expertise. This senior-level position requires 5 - 8 years of experience and combines technical proficiency, communication skills and leadership potential. The role includes mentoring developing engineers, liaising communications between commercial, APM, DPM, PPM, and engineering teams - participating in strategic planning when needed by leadership. The Lead Design Engineer will also be client-facing at times, participating in engineering, prototype, and production reviews with clients. In addition to strong Beauty Design Engineering skills, this role will be instrumental in aligning processes with expanded regional and international teams, including our China team, to enable seamless project handoffs and global collaboration.
Responsibilities:
· Assess information provided by Client, Sales/Account Management and Project Manager and translate it into engineered design solutions, considering visual and structural integrity and cost-effective manufacturability and assembly.
· Take approved visuals/concepts and produce prototype and manufacturing drawing projects in the form of complete drawing packs with bill of materials.
· Ensure designs suit manufacturing processes and appropriate materials.
· Understand and consider assembly, customer interaction, and safety guidelines.
· Meet agreed-upon deadlines.
· Collaborate closely with Production department colleagues to ensure supply chain engineering requirements are met.
· Assist in assembly and inspection of prototypes with limited travel to verify construction and quality.
· Maintain project documentation per company-defined processes (parts lists, QC guidelines, technical specifications).
· Mentor developing engineers and provide guidance on best practices and standards.
· Act as liaison between commercial, product development, and engineering teams to facilitate communication and resolve technical challenges.
· Step in and participate in strategic resource meetings at times and represent engineering management when they are unavailable.
· Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships within the Beauty vertical.
· Align processes with regional and international teams, including China, to support seamless project handoffs and global execution.
· Participate in client-facing engineering, prototype, and production reviews as needed.
· The role typically involves approximately 75% engineering tasks and 25% administrative responsibilities, though this may vary based on project needs.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical, Structural, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 5–8 years of experience in POP design or related industry, preferably within beauty retail environments.
· Solid proficiency in SolidWorks, including full release of engineering packs.
· Working knowledge of PDM is a strong plus.
· Experience designing for a variety of manufacturing displays: Plastic sheet fabrication, vacuum forming, injection molding, extrusions; Metal: sheet metal, wire forming, steel tube and finishing; LED Lighting, Wood fabrication: hardware and finishing.
· Comfortable interacting with cross-functional teams (Sales, Account Management, Development, Production) and clients.
· Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Some travel required <10%.
· Adobe CS (Illustrator, Photoshop) a plus.
· Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in future management opportunities.
