Description

Job Summary:

The primary focus of this role will be on freight analytics, optimizing carrier management and partnerships, conducting freight invoice reconciliations, and performing in-depth pricing and margin analysis related to location-specific factors and box dimensions. This position plays a critical role in driving operational efficiency, cost savings, and data-driven decision-making within our freight operations.

Job Description:

  • Freight Analytics: Analyze freight data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization. Develop dashboards and reports using tools like Excel, Tableau, or SQL to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as transit times, costs, and delivery accuracy.
  • Carrier Management and Partnerships: Evaluate and manage relationships with freight carriers, including contract negotiations, performance reviews, and partnership development. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improved collaboration and cost reduction.
  • Freight Invoice Reconciliations: Perform detailed reconciliations of freight invoices against contracts, shipment records, and billing terms. Identify discrepancies, resolve billing errors, and implement processes to minimize future issues, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Pricing and Margin Analytics: Analyze pricing structures based on location-specific variables (e.g., regional surcharges, fuel costs) and box dimensions (e.g., volumetric pricing models). Conduct margin analysis to assess profitability, recommend pricing adjustments, and forecast impacts on overall business margins.
  • Data-Driven Insights and Reporting: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., finance, operations, procurement) to gather requirements, model scenarios, and provide actionable recommendations. Support strategic initiatives by preparing business cases and ROI analyses for freight-related projects.
  • Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in freight operations and propose solutions, such as automation tools for invoice processing or advanced analytics for carrier selection.
  • Client Profitability Analytics: Assist Director of Finance in preparation of weekly profitability reporting and data driven process improvements.
  • Inventory Management: Work alongside Director of Finance and Director of Sales on finished goods inventory management and reporting, identify and report risk.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications of Position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Supply Chain/Logistics, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in freight analytics, operations finance, logistics, or transportation roles, with hands-on exposure to carrier management and invoice reconciliation.

Preferred Qualifications of Position:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, Finance, Supply Chain, Data Analytics or a related field OR an equivalent combination of advanced education and substantial professional experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, Power Query; basic VBA a plus)
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools for KPI dashboards
  • Experience with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and understanding of ERP data structures and ability to quickly adapt to utilization of proprietary software.
  • Ability to perform margin analysis and build pricing models incorporating different cost factors.
  • Strong understanding of freight modes, dimensional pricing, and carrier scorecards.
  • Demonstrated experience with freight invoice reconciliation against contracts and shipment records.
  • Proven ability to identify trends and operational inefficiencies and translating insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Clear, concise business writing and communications to present analyses to finance, operations, sales, and procurement stakeholders.
  • High level of ownership, collaboration, and professionalism.
  • Process improvement mindset – comfortable shaping and automating workflows and efficiencies.

PAY STATEMENT

The national pay range for this role is listed in the job posting. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
