Position Overview

The Prepress Supervisor is responsible for managing all prepress operations, including file preparation, proofing, color management, and plate output. This position ensures that all jobs meet client specifications, production schedules, and quality standards. The supervisor also plays a key role in implementing new technologies and workflows—particularly the integration and optimization of Esko software systems to enhance prepress efficiency and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and schedule prepress staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to company standards.
• Review and process digital files for print readiness, including preflighting, color correction, trapping, and imposition.
• Oversee proofing and approval processes to ensure accuracy, color consistency, and compliance with client requirements.
• Maintain and troubleshoot prepress equipment and software including RIP systems, CTP devices and color calibration tools.
• Develop and implement efficient prepress workflows and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with team members to lead the rollout and integration of Esko software solutions (automation engine, ArtPro+, DeskPack, etc.). Provide training, establish best practices, and ensure system adoption aligns with production goals.
• Work closely with sales, planning, account management, and pressroom teams to resolve file issues and meet production deadlines.
• Monitor supplies and maintain schedules for prepress equipment and materials.
• Ensure all prepress operations comply with safety, environment, and quality standards.
• All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise a team of 30 + prepress operators.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, graphic communications, printing technology or related field or applicable experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in prepress production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
• Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), RIP software, and color management systems.
• Experience with Esko software platforms and workflow automation tools helpful
• Familiarity with PDF workflows, CTP systems, and various printing processes (offset, digital, Flexo).
• Excellence problem-solving communication and organization skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business, graphic communications, printing technology or related field or applicable experience
  • Experience implementing or optimizing Esko Automation Engine or similar workflow systems.
  • Knowledge of G7 color calibration and ISO printing standards
  • Background in both commercial, large format and packaging printing environments

Pay Range

USD $75,000.00 - USD $100,000.00 /Yr.

Pay Statement

The national pay range for this role is listed above. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
