Network Provisioning Engineer
Job Description
The Network Provisioning Engineer is the focal point for all internal and external orders required to maintain
the network.
The Network Provisioning Engineer deploys, configures, and tests network infrastructure to fulfill service
orders and activate new connections. They allocate bandwidth, integrate hardware like routers and
switches, and troubleshoot routing or connectivity issues, serving as a critical bridge between network
design and active operations.
Role Responsibilities
· Service Activation: Build, test, and activate network circuits. Assist team in reviewing
requirements, reserving interfaces, designing path, track FOC and DLR, requesting patching
between equipment, and ordering cross-connects. Communicate and collaborate with internal
customers, stakeholders and network carriers. Assist with metrics development and operational
reporting/reviews
· Timeline Management: Help track milestones and proactively drive any activities that may
jeopardize orders from completing on time. Provide thorough and timely status throughout the
entire implementation life cycle in the tracking system; including communicating vendor
provisioning/install lead times. Help prioritize projects, manage and direct activities to deliver
connectivity within project schedule
· Configuration & Scripting: Configure routers, switches, and firewalls using Command Line
Interface (CLI) or automation tools to customer and business specifications.
· Circuit Design & Tracking: Track FOC (Firmware/Fiber Operational Circuit) and DLR (Design
Layout Record), assign patch panel demarcations, and process telecom orders.
· Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and configuration issues to ensure
seamless hand-off and continuous network performance. Expedite and escalate issues when
necessary to ensure timely delivery of services
· Documentation: Document service requests, escalate as needed, and provide timely and
accurate updates. Aid in design, provision, and test of delivered services to ensure quality hand-off
to internal customers. Create and maintain network diagrams, device configurations, and records
of allocated IP addresses.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
· Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of routing protocols (e.g., BGP, MPLS) and
networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena). Knowledge of cable throughput and transit distances.
Understand basic telecommunications practices, terminologies, and interfaces of Access Server
Request (ASR) to local carriers. Understanding of provisioning network bandwidth for IP transit,
fiber, voice and wavelength services
· Industry Standards: Familiarity with telecom infrastructures, bandwidth management, and Access
Server Requests (ASRs). Understanding of telecommunications industry in a switched network provisioning environment
· Technical Skills: o Large broad scope project experience o BGP, OSPF, IPv4 and IPv6, STP o DNS, NTP, SNMP o Multicast network design and troubleshooting (PIM, IGMP experience) o Cisco L3 switching · Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to handle time-sensitive deadlines and mandated delivery dates. ·
Education/Experience: A degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. electronic engineering or software development) would be preferred. 5 years’ related experience ·
