Job Description
The Director is responsible for leading a facility’s Digital Media Operations team. It is primarily an operational role with some technical duties as well. Leads and Supervisors from any of our services may report to the Manager.
• Review and recommend new methods and procedures to make daily operations in areas more efficient
• Plan and schedule all activities within the areas for which the individual is responsible for and coordinate them with other operations areas as required
• Monitor employees for attendance, lateness, performance issues, employee evaluations and performance management
• Ensures that the operations areas managed are adequately staffed and that all personnel are trained
• Ensures that all documentation is kept current, monitoring/alarm systems are tracking service changes
• Ensures that established procedures are being followed
• Participates in design requirements to optimize POD operator configuration and workstations
• Handle time cards, payroll issues/errors, time off requests and all management driven paperwork
• Inform upper management of any issues in areas of responsibility
• Must be calm in high pressure situations and maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Ability to uphold and administer Encompass policies
• Scheduling, budgeting, written reports, maintain working relationships with management, supervise effectively, plan and forecast
• Perform tasked related to client relations including: writing detailed daily operations reports, setting up meetings and dealing with all requests from the client
• Coordinate and participate in weekly operations and engineering client meetings
• Is proactive with client to ensure service needs are anticipated
• Provide follow up documentation and/or meetings for On-Air Impacting Incidents: Internally and with client
• Distribute daily iTracker incident reports internally and to client along with monthly internal reliability reports
• Interviewing external and internal candidates for Operations positions
• Work with internal groups to gather information, and communicate scheduled maintenance plans
• Reports on customer satisfaction, project status and regular data as directed from management
• Ability to work evenings, nights, holidays, weekends when business need necessitates
• Schedule employees for coverage and cost efficiency, introduce measures to cut overtime costs and enforce policies regarding staff coverage to avoid operator shortages
• Provide strong technical and operational leadership in a fast paced, multi-channel environment
• Excellent organizational, time management and supervisory skills
• Other duties may be assigned from time to time
Requirements
• Minimum 4 years in a broadcast environment management position.
• Technical proficiency and operational knowledge of all systems and hardware within a centralized master control environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or technical school and equivalent experience.
• Live event broadcast experience
• Managing large group (20 plus) of employees.
• Understanding of playout automation equipment.
• Ability to clearly communicate with staff in regards to company information, client requirements, and individual performance of each employee.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as standard contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals, etc.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of applications
• Situational awareness – being able to recognize patterns, potential misunderstandings, and other non-obvious issues so they can be addressed proactively
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Comprehensive familiarity with video and broadcast concepts, specifically as they relate to Digital Media
• Excellent customer skills; responsive, credible, consultative, knowledgeable
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong problem solver; ability to suggest changes and improvements to workflows
• Focus on Quality over Quantity, even in fast-paced environment
• Deep familiarity with Windows Office suite, including Visio
• Functional knowledge of file transfer processes using FTP and Aspera
• Functional knowledge of encoding processes and software such as Vantage, Carbon, or similar
• Firm understanding of XML syntax
• Command line operations and basic scripting logic
• Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year university or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
